Rockmount Condominiums are being renovated by Dan and Kathleen Kaul,
and Jim and Yolanda Bawek.
Dan and Kathleen moved to Livingston around
1990 and fell in love with
the historic Murray Hotel at Park and 2nd Street. Dan was a
building contractor who specialized in renovating bars and restaurants
back in Minnesota and he was excited to restore the
building. Kathleen said, “It was built to stay. The
high ceilings charmed us. The brick and cement gave it a solid
feeling. It has so much warmth and potential.”
The hotel has hosted celebrities and locals for nearly a century.
Famous director, Sam Peckinpah listed the Murray as one of his homes,
humorist Will Rogers once tried to sneak a saddle horse into his 3rd
floor suite, and the Queen of Denmark once rested her royal head on a
Murray Hotel pillow.
In 2004, after reconfiguring the hotel from a 100 room facility to 30
suites and expanded rooms, the Kaul’s offered the rooms for sale as
condominiums. Kathleen said, “. . . the condo concept has allowed
us
to continue to make upgrades while retaining the feel of the original
building."
